I thought I should complie a list of mvies in recent times that were brilliant but due to bad (or cheap) marketing or bad audience taste did not get the success that it should. Please note that they may have been crtical successes or even a hit in a few areas, but my point is they should have enjoyed far more success due to the effort and craft of the technicians and crew involved.

So please do give you inputs and any suggestions of movies I may have missed. I obviously do not have teh time to see al movies and cable television show very badly mauled versionsof the original movie.

Here are the unfortunate movies....

1) Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi - Brilliant, simply brilliant. My first attempt at watching genuine and moving cinema and I wasn't rewarded. There was KK and Chitrangada Singh (yes...very similar ro Smita Patil, its eerie) and there was Shiney Ahuja (Khoya Khoya Chand, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Life in a... Metro, Gangster ) . This movie brough him on teh center stage of the bunch of talented actors. Yes, Gangster may have brought him teh much needed hit, but it was this movie that made him and our Industry a able star.

2) Swades - Ashutosh, Ashutosh, and Ashutosh alone. Uhhhhh and the set of character actors....fabulous. Most of them the same Lagaan bunch.

3) Socha Na Tha - Again a beautifully crafted tale with sensitive and real performances. Infortunate as this film could have got the newest Deol on the block a decent hit and a better start to his career. And Ayesha...... the very hot and smokin Ayesha is mostly clothed in the entire movie with the exception of a couple of scenes in Goa. yet she looks ravishing enough to be abducted.

4) Johnny Gaddaar - To be honest I haven't seen the movie in a theatre and seen only parts of it on cable. But it still looks good and a refreshing change from the tacky stories we see in Bollywood. It is her eon this list as it has got excellent reviews from all reviewers.

5) Manorama Six Feet Under - Again I confess i haven't seen Manorama Six Feet Under, but the reviews I read and the story is refreshing and bold. Again a damp squib at the theatres. Fans of a voluptuos Gul Panag can catch her in this movie, but don't expect her to scorch the screen as she plays a married harried woman with shabby clothes et al.

6) Being Cyrus - Again a beautiful dark movie. Being Cyrus is compelling cinema.

7) Eklayvya - I loved it. People were up in arms protesting about it being selected for the Oscars. But I don't understand teh fuss. The story was gripping and there was mystery. The scale was epic and it took us back to more adventurous times. The performances were terrific as were the casting.

8) Shool - This was a fantastic movie and made me expect the world from the director E. Nivas. The story was brutal, gripping and very captivating. Manoj Bajpai was distinctly unlucky not to get a hit with this movie and after that his career stagnated. The badlands of Bihar were shown very well and the performances were top noth especially Sayaji Shinde.

Will add more later. Whew!
