The trailers of
Sarkar Raj have been playing on the idiot box for some time now and they have been getting favorable reviews. People who have seen the trailers have been mightily impressed and have been predicting a hit. This would have brought a smile to the face of the much harangued director,
Ram Gopal Varma. Ever since his disastrous RGV ki Aag, he has become a social pariah in Bollywood.
So with the good feedback to the promos of
Sarkar Raj, his job is half done. But I am far from convinced. Trailers are one thing and a movie is another. Slick editors can make even a crap film look good in the trailers. The proof of the pudding is in the eating after all, isn't it? I have heard so many inside news, sneak news, gossip about a movie being outstanding only to see it crash land at the Box office. So I am not going to join in the chorus of approval for
Sarkar Raj.
It is also in the nature for Bollywood and for that matter Hollywood to go to town with a band-wagon just before the movie releases. After who doesn't want a hit. And RGV will definitely want Sarkar Raj to be a big hit. He needs to regroup and get his standing back in the Bollywood hierarchy. Right now it is in a shambles. And Sarkar Raj seems to be the best way he can reclaim him position as a great director.
There is no doubt he is a special talent, but ego and pride surfaces in any man and that has happened to RGV.......many times. That's when he loses the plot and ignores his well wishers. Also ensuring your moll gets to play heroine-heroine just becos she is a good lay isn't good economics. He has hurt his reputation by making movies for Antara Mali and now Nisha Kothari (and yes earlier Urmila Matondkar). Nowadays I also see Rukhsar featuring in his movies prominently.
Sarkar, Ab Tak Chappan, and a few others. Some thing brewing in teh RGV bedroom? Surprisingly no one from the media has lapped it up. Is the media sleeping?
